Yesterday Morning I attended a Seminar for Wirral Councillors and Young People. It was held at Eastham Youth Club and facilitated by Eileen Newman, Senior Lecturer in Childhood and Adolescence Studies at Liverpool John Moores University, Eileen has been actively involved with developments in Wirral Youth Service over a number of years.
The morning was very well attended by young people who are to be members of The Executive Youth Board and they all had very good ideas and were very passionate about becoming involved. I am sure we have a few future councillors of Wirral among them!
It was a very enjoyable morning and I would Like to thank Eileen Newman for her participation and also Maureen McDaid who is head of Youth and Play services and her team for all of their hard work.
Above I am pictured with Ellis from Bidston and Shay from the Beechwood.

Today I have heard the very dissapointing news that the Bishop of Shrewsbury has announced he will close Ss Peter and Paul’s Church, New Brighton on August 17th.
Although not in Liscard, the Church is an important part of Wallasey’s heritage and is a much loved landmark. I, along with Leah and James will continue to fight to keep this historic church open.

Last Thursday I was invited to attended Wirral Schools Festival which was held at Weatherhead High School.
The quality of the films produced by our young people at primary and secondary schools throughout Wirral was fantastic! Lord Puttnam who was a special guest was very impressed.
Here am I with fellow governor and Chair Jane Owens.

Now that it’s summer (it is, isn’t it?), many people have turned their attention to their gardens. But, in spite of the Council’s requests that we all recycle in different coloured bins, they still haven’t delivered brown bins for garden waste to all those people that need them.
If you still haven’t received yours, email me at leahfraser@wirral.gov.uk and I’ll make sure you receive one.

Local Police held a ’spotlight’ day in the precinct in Liscard last week. The theme was cycling on the pavements which was put together following several complaints about this issue.
In total, ten fixed penalty notices were issued to ‘offenders’. Thanks to the Police who have listened to concerns and acted. Those Police involved received very positive comments from pedestrians who were shopping that day.
Hopefully this will act as a strong deterrent to repeat offenders!

Whatever your opinion of the various battles our troops are engaged in across the world, I’m sure that admiration for their courage and professionalism unites us all.
Over the past few weeks, along with my collegues from Manor Bakeries, I have been collecting various toiletries, magazines and books to send to our troops in Afghanistan. I hope this very small gesture goes some way to reminding those in our armed forces that we are thinking of them, and are grateful for their sacrifices.
Thankfully Royal Mail have agreed to waive the postage fee for packages being sent to soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq, so if you know of anyone in the armed forces at the moment, why not arrange something similar for them and their colleagues?

Whilst out and about I noticed that the Newell Road area had more than its fair share of pot holes! Someone had taken the trouble to mark the pot holes, but it seemed to be taking ages to have them properly prepared.
I spoke with our Streetscene Area Manager and the pot holes were repaired a few days later!

Today along with Cllr Karen Hayes I popped along to the summer fair at St Albans Primary School. It was great to see so many people there supporting the school.
Karen bought some home made jam and I came away with a few books. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and thankfully the rain stayed off!

Last night I attended the summer Governor’s meeting at Weatherhead School. I was really pleased to hear from the Head Girl that they had raised nearly £1,000 for St John’s Hospice from a ‘non uniform’ day recently and that the new Astro turf sports facility has been officially opened.
It was a good meeting and I’m looking forward to results day this summer!
