Sure Start….the facts

April 24, 2008

A £16 Million government funded report has found that Sure Start cash is failing to reach the most needy.

The report found that better off parents in mixed urban areas, have taken advantage of free child care facilities, that are meant for the most needy in our community.

The report comes after our own dedicated Sure Start Centre in the heart of Egremont, was relocated to Liscard primary to cut costs.

The Conservative Party has not only pledged to match current funding levels for Sure Start, but also to double the number of trained health visitors in our poorest communities.

Free Parking….if only

April 23, 2008

A complaint featured in the Wirral Globe by a Liscard resident has highlighted the cost of parking in our Town Centre.

The local resident was fined £60 for parking slightly over the white line in Liscard Town centre.

Many shoppers faced with council parking bureaucracy, are increasingly turning to supermarkets to get their essentials.

Local Conservatives are asking the council to offer shoppers 30 minutes free parking in an effort to get more people into Liscard.

Wirral Anti-Social Behaviour Team is taking to the streets to help residents in the private sector tackle anti-social behaviour.

The team is embarking on a timetable of street-based surgeries over the next six months. The timetable will see the team’s Respect Bus visit locations across Wirral staffed with Enforcement Officers who can take complaints in confidence from the public and provide detailed advice and guidance.

The team receives one new complaint of anti-social behaviour in the private sector every day on average.

The Respect Bus will be at Liscard ASDA on May 2nd All day

promises…….promises

April 23, 2008

Looks Like Gordon Brown has been humiliated into looking into ways how he can compensate all of those hard working people who is ripping off by scrapping the 10p tax rate.

His solution?…a review that will look at compensating people in the Autumn. Well Mr Brown people are struggling to pay increasing food bills, fuel bills and council tax now. Action is needed now, not more empty promises of jam tomorrow!

Happy St George’s Day

April 23, 2008

I think it’s a real shame that for many people our patron saint’s day is just another day, its about time St George’s day was promoted to the same status as St Patrick’s day.

Its great that the council has decided to show some patriotism by flying the St George’s flag on all its buildings today, but I think something more could be done to make this day a bit more special that’s why I am backing calls for St George’s day to be made a national holiday

(after all, we don’t get many of them!)

Thanks

April 22, 2008

In election campaigns, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that everyone who helps is a volunteer.  Everybody who is giving up their time, or who is making a donation towards the cost of our campaign, is really helping to make a difference

Thankyou

New Bin

April 21, 2008

A new bin has been installed at the junction of Mill Lane and Marlowe Road.

Along with Councillors Leah Fraser and Karen Hayes, I have campaigned hard for more bins in our area.

Put simply “the more bins, the less litter”
