Trafalgar Road

May 25, 2008

Last week, I contacted the ‘Empty Properties Section’ at Wallasey Town Hall to report a property in Trafalgar Road (pictured left), which has been empty for quite a while.

Apparantly Wirral Partnership Homes own the property but cant decide whether to sell it, refurbish it or demolish it!

While they’re thinking about it, residents have to live with with this eyesore.  The wall surrounding the house has also been vandalised with locals having to avoid tripping over bricks strewn across the pavement and road.

I’ve spoken to Streetscene and asked them to tidy up the area.  In the meantime I’ll be contacting Wirral Partnership Homes to ask them what’s going on and when they’re going to make a decision on what exactly they intend to do - I’ll be pushing for a decision as soon as possible - residents have lived with this and waited long enough for action.

Before and after…

The Council finally got its act together and cleaned up the graffiti on the side wall of Thomas Cook in Liscard Town Centre.

We’ve requested removal of the graffiti for over a year now, but the Council refused to do anything about it - the policy has always been to only remove graffiti which is offensive.  Personally I find all graffiti offensive to the environment, why should we have to live with it?

We bumped into a member of the Anti Social Behaviour Team on election day and he told us the wall had finally been cleaned, but we were apprehensive that it would be ‘back to normal’ when we went to take a look.  However, it was still clean - great! I hope it stays that way, we’ll keep a check on it.

The good news is that all areas in Liscard which have graffiti will be cleaned over the next few weeks - if there is a specific area where the graffiti artists have been, please let me know by emailing me at leahfraser@wirral.gov.uk

The new trees planted earlier this year are starting to bloom and as they haven’t been vandalised are actually starting to grow!

Here’s hoping that the vandals stay away from Liscard, it looks so much better without graffiti - but doesn’t everywhere?  I know these are only small things but it makes such a difference to the environment and makes Liscard a more pleasant place to shop.
