Foxhey Road

June 12, 2009

Back in March, residents from Foxhey Road contacted me complaining of a broken street light and also the loss of a number of the road’s trees.

A new light was fitted but remained turned off for a number of weeks. The council have now informed me that the light is now connected and working.

Residents are also concerned that a number of foxhey’s trees have been felled. The ensuing stumps have become a serious hazard for residents parking their cars.

I have asked streetscene to investigate ways of making the stumps more visible.

Roads Unfinished

May 15, 2009

IMG_0271

3 Weeks ago, residents of Monk and Newell Roads, received the news that their roads were FINALLY being resurfaced.

Colas – Wirral Councils new highways contractor – gave residents 15 hours notice to move their cars so the work could go ahead.

Some residents worked night shifts, were on holiday and couldn’t move their cars. Colas went round the cars leaving large patches of unfinished work.

I have been assured that Colas will now give residents 3 days notice of any work and will be back to complete any unfinished work.

Containers: Liscard Crescent

May 5, 2009

frozenfood1

For over two years, residents of Newell Road and Monk Road have been graced  lumbered with the sight of refrigeration containers and the litter they attract.

The containers behind the store on Liscard Crescent  were originally granted temporary permission 2 years ago – which has now expired! The store has now applied for full planning permission.

Many residents have contacted me and are opposed to the containers remaining. Last week I asked for the planning application to be dealt with by Planning Committee, where I will represent residents views.

Voting Liberal Democrat?

April 21, 2009

getfile

Last week saw the launch of a new web site aimed at Liberal Democrat voters in Wallasey. In Liscard, the Liberal Democrats came in 4th in the last local elections.

It’s obvious Liberal Democrats can’t win in Wallasey – only the Conservatives can beat Gordon Brown’s candidates.

20’s Plenty

April 21, 2009

Proposals to bring down speed limits in areas where there is a higher risk of accidents are expected to be_45683918_20mph-bbc announced by the government.

Almost a year ago – myself, Leah Fraser and Karen Hayes campaigned to have the Withens lane area of Liscard included in Wirral Council’s own “20’s plenty scheme”.

The measures are part of a new strategy to reduce road deaths in England and Wales through to 2020.

Finally!

March 20, 2009

Back in March, a table and  chairs was dumped in the alleyway linking Manor Road and Manor Lane.

Despite a number if phone calls and emails the council failed to respond.

Last week the rubbish was finally removed!

To report fly-tipping in your area email me at: jameskeeley@wirral.gov.uk or call 0151-639-5179

More Fly-tipping

February 9, 2009

Before Christmas, Lib-Dem Cabinet member Gill Gardner decided to impose a charge for collecting large items of rubbish from resident’s Homes.

At the time, I highlighted that imposing a charge for this service would have an adverse impact on fly-tipping in Wirral.

Today I visited a resident who – 4 months ago – reported fly tipping in his back alley. As of today the rubbish has not been collected.

I have reported the mess to streetscene, who are collecting the rubbish in the morning.

108 King Street

January 24, 2009

Along with residents of Egremont I think this building has been an eyesore for years. It’s great to see it’s finally gone!

Death Row: Council Closing Guinea Gap

January 15, 2009

Tonight, Steve Foulkes and his Labour led cabinet have decidedl-640-480-cd77086f-7239-48c5-a1e6-ceb2ba9ce1b7.jpeg to ignore 20,000 Wallasey residents and will be closing the much loved Guinea Gap in 2011.

Over 20,000 Wallasey residents voiced their disgust at the closure of their hisoric leisure centre.

Guinea Gap will not be closing in March as originally planned but staff and users have effectively been put on “death row” with the facility set to close in two years time.

Liscard councillor James Keeley said “once again the needs of Egremont have been ignored by Labour’s Birkenhead Councillors. We have been promised regeneration for over 10 years but have yet to see any funding. These “jam tommorow” promises will not wash with Egremont residents anymore. We will continue to fight or Guinea Gap baths and will not allow the council to pull the wool over our eyes anymore”

The Labour led cabinet have also axed Seacombe library and Wallasey Village library. These facilities are to close at the end of March.

Labour-Led Council deals another blow to hardworking families

January 14, 2009

The Labour led council has announced yet another cut – again hitting the poorest people worse. The Council is proposing removing the School Uniform Grant given to those families in Wirral who experience considerable financial difficulties.

The Reason behind this cut – ‘Uniforms are cheaper now’ – so says the labour cabinet member for Children’s services. This may be the case but now is not the time to be removing financial support to hard pressed families.

The council are also seeking to remove free school travel for some students who travel to Catholic Schools. Again the Council seems content on increasing the financial pressures on Wirral’s hard working families during a recession.

I, along with other Conservatives on the Council are opposing these cuts.
