Remploy Closure

March 7, 2008

bt_image44f4859034c52253562803.gifLike many people in Wallasey, I’m very saddened by the news of Remploy’s Central Cutting Unit closure.

Along with Councillor Leah Fraser, I visited the Factory in November and saw first hand the skilled and efficient employees at work.

The government’s decision to close the factory, thereby forcing many disabled workers to lose their jobs is nothing short of a disgrace.

Remploy – latest update

December 21, 2007

The Chief Executive of Wirral Borough Council has contacted Liverpool City Council to see how that authority intends to support the threatened Remploy factory in Aintree and if the same assistance can be given to the threatened factory in Wallasey.

Several weeks ago, I secured all-Party support within the Council asking the Chief Executive of Wirral Borough Council to look at what we could do, as an authority, to support the factory in Wallasey.  At the moment, all 43 jobs are under threat as part of the Government’s cutbacks to the company.

If Liverpool City Council can step in to save the jobs at Aintree, I’d like to know if Wirral Council can do the same for the factory in Wallasey.

I’ve also joined the ‘Save Remploy’ group on Facebook here.
