Cllr Suzanne Moseley – RIP

September 19, 2009

dscf2886I am very sorry to inform you of the sad death of my Collegue Cllr. Suzanne Moseley(47).

First elected in 2003, mainly due to her concerns over the proposal to build a quarry close to her home. Environemental issue remained important for  Suzanne who quickly became in further green  issues and campaigns and was appointed to the Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority and, more recently, was our party’s spokesman on the environment.

Suzanne was an outgoing and popular person, she will be sadly missed.

The Breck – Update

June 18, 2009

Yesterday’s street surgery was hugely successful with around 50 residents coming along to voice their concerns to the Police and council officials. Hopefully we will soon see improvements, with the Police and the Council promising action on the yobs who cause so much misery for residents.

We will be arranging another meeting in early August to keep a check on progress.

Wirral’s New Mayor

May 12, 2009

Last night Leah, Karen and I attended the special Council meeting arranged to elect the Mayor of Wirral for the coming municipal year. We are delighted that Cllr Andrew Hodson was elected as Mayor for the next year and made his declaration of office. Andrew will be an excellent ambassador for Wirral, as will his wife Kathy, our new mayoress.

The Mayor’s charities for the coming year will be:  Claire House, The Wirral Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted and the RNLI.

Rake Lane Cemetery targeted again

August 18, 2008

This afternoon, along with Karen Hayes, we visited the Chapel in Rake Lane Cemetery to see for ourselves the damage caused by local vandals.  The Chapel hasn’t been used for six months and we were horrified by what the vandals had done; they smashed the alter, destroyed the stained glass windows and artificial flowers were strewn around, not to mention the mess made by pigeons who had managed to get inside.  It was extremely sad to see such a lovely Chapel reduced to this state.

Karen and I have worked with the Friends of Rake Lane Cemetery since it was formed to try to protect the area, along with Cllr Tony Pritchard.  The group was set up 18 months ago after four youths caused over £1m of damage to gravestones.  The Council have spent money on new fencing and lockable gates, but looking at the damage that’s been done, they need to invest far more to make it safe from these yobs.

I hope the council has learned lessons from Liscard Hall and don’t allow this historical Chapel to be destroyed and that they protect it from further damage.

There is a ‘Friends’ meeting tonight and we’ll be asking the Council what they intend to do to help protect this beautiful building.

They site poor access and the fact that only 4% of tenants use the office as reasons for closure.

WPH tenants are asked to make any comments regarding closure, by email to:dominiqueblundell@wphomes.org.uk or by phone on: 0151 666 7003 and ask for Dominique Blundell.

Free Parking….if only

April 23, 2008

A complaint featured in the Wirral Globe by a Liscard resident has highlighted the cost of parking in our Town Centre.

The local resident was fined £60 for parking slightly over the white line in Liscard Town centre.

Many shoppers faced with council parking bureaucracy, are increasingly turning to supermarkets to get their essentials.

Local Conservatives are asking the council to offer shoppers 30 minutes free parking in an effort to get more people into Liscard.
