I am very sorry to inform you of the sad death of my Collegue Cllr. Suzanne Moseley(47).

First elected in 2003, mainly due to her concerns over the proposal to build a quarry close to her home. Environemental issue remained important for  Suzanne who quickly became in further green  issues and campaigns and was appointed to the Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority and, more recently, was our party’s spokesman on the environment.

Suzanne was an outgoing and popular person, she will be sadly missed.

Today I helped out at The Parish Church of St Elisabeth the New Martyr’s Heritage Open day.

 The church, which has recently taken over Rake Lane Chapel has gone from Strength to Strength over the past few months. Father Micheal is keen to open the chapel to the public as much as possible. It was great to see so many residents learning about the history of the Russian Orthodox church and appreciating the hard work that Father Micheal and his parishioners have put into the chapel.

I was joined by the chairman of the Friends of Rake Lane Group, Mark Joynson,  who like me had been desperate to find a use for the derelict chapel.

Many regular readers will know that Leah, Karen and I opposed the application by Vodafone to install a mast on the junction of Trafalgar Road and King Street. I spoke to oppose the plans at the Planning Committee citing its closeness to a nursery as one of the many reasons why councillors should refuse the application. Unfortunately the application for the mast was passed at the Committee and the residents in that area of Egremont were stuck with another eyesore on their doorstep.

We have recently had news that ‘phone company O2 have now asked to share the mast with Vodafone, this will mean that they will replace the existing  mast with a new taller mast! We are strongly opposed to these plans and will continue to fight on resident’s behalf against increasing the height of this eyesore.

Leah, Karen and I (along with our team of deliverers!) are currently delivering the latest edition of our regular community newslines. With this issue we have included a handy guide on fighting crime. Its full of useful telephone numbers and interesting information about how Wallasey is fairing in the fight against crime. If you can lend a hand with delivering then give us a call as all help is gratefully received!

Yesterday I took part in the cricket match between Wirral Conservatives and Wirral Wizards (Wirral’s visually impaired cricket team). Unfortunately we couldn’t pull off the same epic victory that was being played out at The Oval by England’s national team and we succumbed to the combined skill and experience of the Wirral Wizards who soundly defeated us.

From Thursday 10th September to Sunday 13th September there will be a number of Open Days organised to celebrate local buildings with significant historic value.

In Liscard there will be an open day at the Rake Lane Cemetery Chapel, now the Parish Church of St Elisabeth the New Martyr, which will be opened on Saturday 12th September from 1pm – 5:30pm and again on Sunday 13th September from 1pm – 4pm. On Sunday 13 there will also be a guided walk through the Cemetery beginning at 1:30pm and 2:30pm.

Wallasey Memorial Church on Manor Road will also be open to visitors on Saturday 12th September from 12 – 4pm. You can see the full programme of events by clicking here.

Today Wirral Environment Centre on Falkland Road held a ‘Goodies and Gubbins’ event and open day. I attended along with James, Leah and Denis Knowles. The centre provides training on recycling and sustainability and aims to promote environmentally friendly lifestyles.

At the event we took the opportunity to stock up on veg grown in local allotments and I even had a very relaxing foot massage!

Again the Conservative Team were out door knocking in Egremont. Tonight we visited homes in Union Street, Church Street, Darlington Close and Guilford Road. Residents seemed very happy with the job we are doing and like the way we keep in touch.

With seven out of ten of the former Woolworth shops in the UK still lying vacant, we are lucky that the shop in Liscard was quickly taken up by the discount store Poundland. The Poundland shop is now up and running and it was good to see that th company has recruited many of its staff for the store locally, providing some much needed jobs.
